Wow — it’s been a year since I added any major sections onto this site, but I have been working on a few topics in classical mechanics (sections 2.4 and 2.5) on my spare time. My second year of medical school is starting tomorrow and I really wanted to upload these sections before things get hectic again.
I have finally uploaded section 2.4 — Applying the Euler-Lagrange Equation in classical mechanics. This is a busy section filled with many examples of how to properly use the Euler-Lagrange equations. The examples get progressively more difficult, building up to my favourite example of deriving the equations of motion of a charged particle in an electromagnetic field (i.e., the Lorentz force law). This last example gives a glimpse into the types of heavy calculations that go into theoretical physics.
I have also worked on another section focused on the role of the Lagrangian formalism beyond classical mechanics. This is a personal favourite of mine and it should be up shortly — stay tuned!
